Planet Zoo 2 No Path to Destination: How to Fix It

“No path to destination” stops an animal from moving into its habitat. A move depends on a chain of four things: the Trade Centre, the Staff Gate, the paths between them and the Caretakers who carry the animal. Work down the checklist to find the missing link.

Last updated Game version: Update 1.0.5 (October 16, 2026)

How an animal move works

When you move an animal, from Storage into a habitat, from one habitat to another or to a Vet Surgery, an available Caretaker or Vet comes to box it, carries the box to the destination and the animal unboxes there by itself. Frontier's Animals guide adds that every move needs a Trade Centre connected to the main path network. In practice, staff must be able to reach both ends of the move along your paths.

Check the Trade Centre first

Without a working Trade Centre in the zoo you are in, you cannot adopt animals, take them out of Storage or move them at all. Storage is shared by all your zoos, but each zoo needs its own Trade Centre before animals can be brought in. Build it next to your main paths and make sure the path to its entrance joins the rest of the zoo, not a loose stretch of path of its own. In Franchise the same building is where you send animals you want to sell; our Planet Zoo 2 Franchise mode guide explains Trading.

Staff Gates and paths

A habitat is only complete once its barrier forms a full perimeter and has a Staff Gate. Frontier's habitat guide then says to connect the gate to your path network. Staff use the gate to get in, so a gate that faces open grass leaves the habitat cut off even though it looks finished. Aviaries work the same way under their roof.

A Vet Surgery must have power and be reachable by path to work, so check both when a sick animal will not go there. Once animals can get in, the Planet Zoo 2 habitat planner checks the space, temperature and barrier the group needs.

The staff who carry animals

Caretakers are in charge of moving animals to and from habitats, aquariums and facilities, on top of cleaning paths, bins and toilets. Vets can carry animals too when other staff are not available. A newly hired member of staff has to be placed on a path before they start work.

Work Zones limit where staff work. If every Caretaker is assigned to a zone that leaves out the Trade Centre or the destination habitat, nobody is free to make the move, so add both to a Caretaker's zone or leave some Caretakers without one. Staff also need a Staff Room: Frontier's Staff guide says staff without enough energy cannot complete jobs.

Aquariums

An aquarium fills with water by itself once its Aquarium Staff Gate is in place, and keepers enter through that gate in diving suits, so it needs a path like any other gate. To change an aquarium's barrier, the water and the animals have to come out first: box the animals, use Drain Water, edit, then add the water back. Filtration and salinity are covered on our Planet Zoo 2 water filtration page.

Known issues Frontier has posted

If you have ticked every check and moves still fail, report it on the Frontier issue tracker. Our Planet Zoo 2 updates page lists every patch, so you can see when a fix arrives.

Player reports, not yet verified

  • Grade C · Some players saw the message on every habitat after Update 1.0.5 even with gates and paths in place.
  • Grade C · One player found that a small piece of path inside an aquarium stopped the tank from filling; removing it fixed it.

Planet Zoo 2 No path to destination questions

What does "No path to destination" mean in Planet Zoo 2?

It shows when an animal move cannot go ahead. Frontier's guides do not explain the message itself, but they say how moves work: a Caretaker or Vet boxes the animal and carries it along your paths, and every move needs a Trade Centre on the main path network. The usual cause is a missing link in that chain.

Why can I not put animals in my habitat in Planet Zoo 2?

Check three things: a Trade Centre joined to the main path network, a Staff Gate in the habitat barrier with a path reaching it, and at least one Caretaker who is free to do the job. If all three are in place, the problem may be one of the known issues Frontier is fixing.

Do you need a Trade Centre to move animals in Planet Zoo 2?

Yes. Frontier's Animals guide says every animal move needs a Trade Centre that is connected to the main path network, and you also need one to adopt animals and to bring animals out of Storage.

Why will my aquarium not fill with water in Planet Zoo 2?

An aquarium fills with water by itself once its Aquarium Staff Gate is placed, so check the gate first. To change the barrier later, drain the water and box the animals first, then add the water back when you are done.

Is "No path to destination" a bug?

Sometimes. Frontier lists animals being boxed more often than usual as a known issue, and on 20 October 2026 said its next update will add clearer signs when facilities are not connected to paths. If every step in the checklist is done and moves still fail, report it on the Frontier issue tracker.
