Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia: Every Animal Explained

The Zoopedia is Planet Zoo 2's animal encyclopedia. Frontier's online version lists 130 animals as of October 11, 2026, sorted by four habitat types and twelve biomes. This guide explains what each entry tells you and how the roster breaks down.

What a Zoopedia entry tells you

Every animal on Frontier's online Zoopedia has its own page with the same sections:

The list page adds the game side: filters for habitat type, biome, continent, conservation status and content pack (base game or Deluxe Edition). Frontier notes that the Zoopedia is a work in progress, so text and details can still change. Our Planet Zoo 2 animal list puts all of those filters on one page.

The four habitat types

A few fish are listed for both an aquarium and an exhibit, so the four numbers add up to more than 130. Flying habitats and aquariums are new: Frontier calls Planet Zoo 2 the first game in the series with birds and fully aquatic animals.

The twelve biomes

Each entry names one or more biomes. In Zoopedia order: Desert (16), Estuarine (13), Grassland (45), Lakes and Rivers (15), Mangrove (9), Open Sea (13), Reef (22), Taiga (14), Temperate (26), Tropical (38), Tundra (9) and Wetlands (25). The Planet Zoo 2 biomes page lists the animals of each one and finds the biomes several animals share.

Continents and oceans

Each entry names the continents or oceans the species lives in. The Planet Zoo 2 animals by continent page lists every animal of each one, for planning a themed zoo.

Deluxe Edition animals

The Zoopedia marks six animals with the Deluxe content pack: the Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead and Longfin Batfish. They only come with the Deluxe Edition; the Deluxe Edition animals page compares the two editions.

Animals still to come

Frontier's Final Zoopedia Reveals post lists the last species to join the Zoopedia before launch. The Asian Small-clawed Otter, Black Rhino, Javanese Cownose Ray and Binturong have been named but were not on the online Zoopedia on October 11, 2026. We add each one as soon as Frontier publishes its entry. Which animals came in each weekly Zoopedia update since June is on the Planet Zoo 2 updates page.

Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia questions

What is the Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia?

The Zoopedia is the animal encyclopedia of Planet Zoo 2. Frontier also publishes it online: each animal has a page about the real species, and the list can be filtered by habitat type, biome, continent, conservation status and content pack.

How many animals are in the Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia?

130 as of October 11, 2026. Frontier has named four more animals for launch that are not on it yet: the Asian Small-clawed Otter, Black Rhino, Javanese Cownose Ray and Binturong.

Does the online Zoopedia show what each animal needs in the game?

No. The online pages describe the real species (range, size, conservation, social life and reproduction) and their habitat type and biomes. In-game needs such as habitat size, temperature and group size are not on them; we add those once they are confirmed in the released game.

What does Not evaluated mean in the Zoopedia?

It is the IUCN category for species that have not been assessed yet. 8 Zoopedia animals have it: the Amazonian Giant Centipede, Giant Forest Scorpion, Giant Malaysian Leaf Insect, Giant Tiger Land Snail, Goliath Beetle, Menelaus Blue Morpho, Moon Jelly and Sacred Scarab Beetle. Frontier's online list shows question marks for them instead of a status.
