Planning a mixed habitat?

Pick up to six animals and see at once which biomes and continents the official Zoopedia lists for all of them, so you can plan a themed habitat around the landscape they share.

Every biome with all of its animals is on the Planet Zoo 2 biomes page.

Biomes all 3 share: Grassland.

A shared biome is not the same as being able to share a habitat. The game's own Zoopedia says which species can live together; we add those lists once they are confirmed in the released game.

Animals named for launch, not on the Zoopedia yet

Frontier's Final Zoopedia Reveals post names the last 12 species to join the Zoopedia before the launch at 3 PM BST on October 13, 2026 (Planet Zoo 2 release time in your time zone). Most are on the list below already. Four more have been named but are not listed yet:

  • Asian Small-clawed Otter: Final Zoopedia Reveals (news, 2 October 2026)
  • Black Rhino: Final Zoopedia Reveals (news, 2 October 2026)
  • Javanese Cownose Ray: Final Zoopedia Reveals (news, 2 October 2026) and the 'Javanese Cownose Ray Reveal' trailer in the official gallery
  • Binturong: 'Binturong Reveal' trailer in the official gallery (the news post still showed a mystery slot)

On October 11, 2026 the post still showed three mystery slots. We add each animal to the list as soon as it appears on the official Zoopedia. Playing on PC? Check the Planet Zoo 2 system requirements before launch day.

Planet Zoo 2 animal questions

How many animals are in Planet Zoo 2?

Frontier's online Zoopedia lists 130 animals as of October 11, 2026. Frontier has named four more for launch that are not on it yet (Asian Small-clawed Otter, Black Rhino, Javanese Cownose Ray and Binturong), and its Final Zoopedia Reveals post still showed three mystery slots, so the roster at launch is bigger than 130.

Is there a great white shark in Planet Zoo 2?

Not in the official Zoopedia as of October 11, 2026. The sharks and rays it lists are the Blacktip Reef Shark, Great Hammerhead (Deluxe Edition only), Indo-Pacific Leopard Shark and Ocellated Eagle Ray. Frontier has also named the Javanese Cownose Ray for launch.

Which Planet Zoo 2 animals are only in the Deluxe Edition?

Six animals come only with the Deluxe Edition: the Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead and Longfin Batfish. The Deluxe Edition costs $64.99 in the US, against $49.99 for the Standard Edition.

Are there dolphins or whales in Planet Zoo 2?

No. Frontier says Planet Zoo 2 has no cetaceans (dolphins, whales or porpoises) because it wants every species to have an environment that suits it, and it is following conservation research on these animals.

Are there penguins in Planet Zoo 2?

Yes: the African Penguin. The Zoopedia lists it for a terrestrial habitat rather than an aquarium, with the Open Sea and Grassland biomes.

Which animals can fly in Planet Zoo 2?

Twelve birds live in flying habitats (aviaries): the Eurasian Bittern, Golden Eagle, Great Hornbill, Greater Flamingo, Javan Green Magpie, Long-Eared Owl, Long-Tailed Parakeet, Secretarybird, Shoebill, Toco Toucan, White-Backed Vulture and White-Tailed Sea-Eagle. The African Penguin and Common Ostrich are birds as well, but they live in terrestrial habitats.
