Planet Zoo 2 Accreditation Tiers and Animal Unlocks
Accreditation decides which animals you can buy. There are five tiers, and Career and Franchise each keep their own: Career raises it with medals, Franchise with zoo Reputation stars and reserve Biodiversity stars. Pick a mode and a tier to see what it unlocks, or look up any of the 136 animals.
Last updated Game version: Update 1.0.5 (October 16, 2026)
Which animals each tier unlocks
Frontier plans to change Franchise accreditation in its next update: more species in the lower tiers and easier requirements for tiers 3 to 5. Everything here is Update 1.0.5; we will update this page the day the change ships.

What each accreditation tier needs
A tier unlocks when you meet all of its requirements. Frontier's player guide says higher tiers give you new species in Trading, better marketing, new Research Network types and more room to store animals. The marketing column below is the number of extra campaign slots each tier adds.
| Tier | Career needs | Franchise needs | Marketing slots | Also unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Starting tier | Starting tier | 1 Bronze | — |
| Tier 2 | 2 Bronze and 1 Silver Career medals | A zoo with 3 Reputation stars | 2 Bronze | Career level: Nordic Fjords |
| Tier 3 | 7 Bronze and 1 Silver Career medals | 2 zoos with 3 Reputation stars, and a Wildlife Reserve with 3 Biodiversity Rating stars | 1 Bronze and 1 Silver | Career level: Sumatra Reserve; Silver marketing campaigns |
| Tier 4 | 12 Bronze and 2 Silver Career medals | 2 zoos with 4 Reputation stars, and 2 Wildlife Reserves with 4 Biodiversity Rating stars | 1 Bronze and 1 Silver | Career level: Maluku Islands; 50 more animal storage slots |
| Tier 5 | 18 Bronze and 2 Silver Career medals | 2 zoos with 5 Reputation stars, and 3 Wildlife Reserves with 5 Biodiversity Rating stars | 1 Silver and 1 Gold | Gold marketing campaigns; The achievement Credit Where It’s Due |
Every save starts at tier 1 with 1 Bronze marketing slot. Over all five tiers the marketing slots add up to 9, and Silver and Gold campaigns open at tiers 3 and 5. Reaching tier 5 earns the achievement Credit Where It's Due.
How to raise your accreditation tier
In Career
Career accreditation rises with the medals you win from scenario zoos and Wildlife Reserves. Bronze medals do most of the work: tier 5 needs 18 Bronze and 2 Silver medals. Each of tiers 2 to 4 also opens a new Career location. Career tier 5 adds no animals; by tier 4 every animal can be bought.
In Franchise
Franchise accreditation counts your zoos' Reputation stars and your Wildlife Reserves' Biodiversity Rating stars. Tier 2 needs only a zoo with 3 Reputation stars. From tier 3 on you also need reserves, and tier 5 asks for 2 zoos with 5 Reputation stars, and 3 Wildlife Reserves with 5 Biodiversity Rating stars. Releasing animals into reserves is how you raise Biodiversity; the Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves guide explains the steps, and the release groups finder shows which reserve each animal can go to. Our Planet Zoo 2 Franchise mode guide has tips for the first tiers.
The two modes never share progress. Frontier says playing Career does not move your Franchise tier, and you do not need Career to climb in Franchise.

A new Franchise has plenty of grassland grazers and small exhibit animals, but no big cat: the Lion is a tier 1 animal in Career and a tier 5 animal in Franchise.
Unlocking an animal only puts it in Trading: you still pay for it, and many animals are priced in Conservation Credits rather than cash. Our Planet Zoo 2 Conservation Credits guide lists every way to earn them.
Animals that unlock at a different tier in Franchise
83 animals unlock at the same tier in both modes. The other 53 do not: 32 come later in Franchise and 21 come earlier. The biggest moves, three tiers or more:
- Lion: tier 5 in Franchise and tier 1 in Career
- Masai Giraffe: tier 4 in Franchise and tier 1 in Career
- Shoebill: tier 4 in Franchise and tier 1 in Career
- Western Chimpanzee: tier 5 in Franchise and tier 2 in Career
The ten Franchise tier 5 animals are the African Savannah Elephant, Asian Elephant, Giant Panda, Great Hammerhead, Lion, Ocean Sunfish, Sumatran Orangutan, Western Chimpanzee, Western Lowland Gorilla and White-Backed Vulture. The Giant Panda is tier 5 in Franchise and tier 3 in Career.

The official online Zoopedia does not show unlock tiers. These tiers were checked on October 21, 2026 against the in-game Zoopedia in released-game footage, where each locked animal shows the tier it needs. Two elephants, the Lion and the Giant Panda were among the animals checked.
Planet Zoo 2 accreditation questions
How do you increase accreditation in Planet Zoo 2?
In Career, earn medals from scenario zoos and Wildlife Reserves. In Franchise, run zoos with a high Zoo Reputation and Wildlife Reserves with a high Biodiversity Rating. Franchise tier 2 needs a zoo with 3 Reputation stars; tier 5 needs 2 zoos with 5 Reputation stars, and 3 Wildlife Reserves with 5 Biodiversity Rating stars.
Does Career accreditation count in Franchise mode?
No. Frontier says accreditation is separate in each game mode: progress in Career does not raise your Franchise tier, and you do not need to play Career to raise it.
What does accreditation unlock in Planet Zoo 2?
New species in Trading, more marketing campaigns, new Research Network types and more animal storage. Over the five tiers you get 9 marketing slots, and tier 4 adds 50 animal storage slots.
When do you unlock elephants in Planet Zoo 2?
In Franchise, both elephants unlock at tier 5, the top tier, together with the Giant Panda, Great Hammerhead, Lion, Ocean Sunfish, Sumatran Orangutan, Western Chimpanzee, Western Lowland Gorilla and White-Backed Vulture. In Career the Asian Elephant unlocks at tier 3 and the African Savannah Elephant at tier 4.
Which animals can you buy at accreditation tier 1?
32 animals in Franchise and 33 in Career, among them the Plains Zebra, Common Ostrich, Meerkat and Aardvark. The Lion is a tier 1 animal in Career but needs tier 5 in Franchise.
Are the accreditation requirements changing?
Yes, in Franchise. Frontier said on 20 October 2026 that its next update will move more species into lower accreditation tiers and lower the requirements of tiers 3 to 5. This page shows Update 1.0.5 and will change when that update is out.
