Planet Zoo 2 Flyable Area for Every Bird
Check how much flyable area each aviary bird needs. Flyable Area is the flying space an aviary gives its birds, and every one of the twelve flying species needs its own amount: from 6 m² for one Long-Tailed Parakeet to 60 m² for one Greater Flamingo, Secretarybird and White-Backed Vulture. The tables below give the official flight area for each bird and group size.

Flight area for every bird
From the smallest need to the largest. “Smallest group” is the flight area for the fewest adults the species accepts in a group, the space you need at least once you keep a group.
| Bird | Group size | Flight area, 1 adult | Flight area, smallest group | Each extra adult adds | Land area, 1 adult |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Long-Tailed Parakeet | 2–12 | 6 m² | 12 m² (2 adults) | 6 m² | 6 m² |

Flight area by number of adults
The Zoopedia's adult-count control gives a new flight area for every adult you add. We read it at every count from 1 to 500, its maximum: for each bird the flight area grows by the same amount with every extra adult, as the first table shows. Here are the first six counts; the habitat planner gives any other. Some counts are above a species' preferred group size, as the group size column above shows; the Zoopedia still gives a value for them.
| Bird | 1 adult | 2 adults | 3 adults | 4 adults | 5 adults | 6 adults |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Long-Tailed Parakeet | 6 m² | 12 m² | 18 m² | 24 m² | 30 m² | 36 m² |
| Eurasian Bittern | 20 m² | 40 m² | 60 m² | 80 m² | 100 m² | 120 m² |
| Toco Toucan | 20 m² | 30 m² | 40 m² | 50 m² | 60 m² | 70 m² |
| Javan Green Magpie | 25 m² | 30 m² | 35 m² | 40 m² | 45 m² | 50 m² |
| Golden Eagle | 50 m² | 100 m² | 150 m² | 200 m² | 250 m² | 300 m² |
| Great Hornbill | 50 m² | 70 m² | 90 m² | 110 m² | 130 m² | 150 m² |
| Long-Eared Owl | 50 m² | 90 m² | 130 m² | 170 m² | 210 m² | 250 m² |
| Shoebill | 50 m² | 65 m² | 80 m² | 95 m² | 110 m² | 125 m² |
| White-Tailed Sea-Eagle | 50 m² | 100 m² | 150 m² | 200 m² | 250 m² | 300 m² |
| Greater Flamingo | 60 m² | 62 m² | 64 m² | 66 m² | 68 m² | 70 m² |
| Secretarybird | 60 m² | 85 m² | 110 m² | 135 m² | 160 m² | 185 m² |
| White-Backed Vulture | 60 m² | 85 m² | 110 m² | 135 m² | 160 m² | 185 m² |
The Greater Flamingo lives in groups of 20–500; its smallest group of 20 adults needs 98 m² of flight area.
How to get more flyable area
Frontier's aviary feature explains the two numbers to compare: each bird's requirement in the Zoopedia, and the Flyable Area that every aviary shows in its Info Panel. Once birds have moved in, their welfare tells you whether they need more flying space, and Frontier names two ways to add it: raise the height of the roof, or expand the habitat.
Frontier has not published how the game measures Flyable Area, for example how high a roof has to be before the space counts. We leave that out until it is confirmed, so we cannot say why a panel would show a Flyable Area of zero; the two fixes above are the ones Frontier gives. How to build and shape the roof itself is on the Planet Zoo 2 flying animals page.

Land, water and shelter too
A bird's flight area is only one of its space needs. Every entry also lists land area and shelter area, and the Eurasian Bittern and Greater Flamingo need aquatic area as well. The Planet Zoo 2 habitat planner shows all of them for the adult counts you choose, with the temperature range, barrier and the official relationship lists for birds that can share an aviary.
Planning to release your birds later? Ten of the aviary birds can go to a Wildlife Reserve; the Planet Zoo 2 release groups page lists which reserve takes each one.
Planet Zoo 2 flyable area questions
What is Flyable Area in Planet Zoo 2?
It is the flying space an aviary gives the birds inside it. Every aviary shows its Flyable Area in the Info Panel, and each bird's Zoopedia entry lists the flight area it needs.
How much flying space does a bird need in Planet Zoo 2?
From 6 m² for one Long-Tailed Parakeet to 60 m² for one Greater Flamingo, Secretarybird and White-Backed Vulture, according to the official Zoopedia. A bigger group needs more: each extra adult adds a fixed amount, from 2 m² to 50 m² depending on the bird.
How do you increase flyable area in Planet Zoo 2?
Frontier names two ways: raise the aviary's roof or make the habitat bigger. Once birds live there, their welfare shows whether they need more flying space.
Which bird needs the most flying space in Planet Zoo 2?
For one adult, the Greater Flamingo, Secretarybird and White-Backed Vulture (60 m² each). For the smallest group a species can live in, the White-Backed Vulture: six adults need 185 m².
Do aviary birds need land area too?
Yes. Each entry lists land and shelter area as well as flight area; one Shoebill, for example, needs 200 m² of land and 50 m² of flight area. The Eurasian Bittern and Greater Flamingo also need aquatic area.
